24th Annual Kaleidoscope Juried Exhibition
Betty and Howard Taylor Main Gallery
Kaleidoscope is an annual holiday show presented by the Alliance for the Visual Arts (AVA). This show is open to all members of AVA organizations: Akron Society of Artists (ASA), Artists of Rubber City (AoRC), Cuyahoga Valley Art Center (CVAC), Medina County Art League (MCAL), Ohio Collage Society (OSC), Artists of Group 10, and Women’s Art League of Akron (WAL). This year’s exhibition is juried by Valerie Metzger, Curator of Art and Artifacts at the Massillon Museum.
JUROR’S STATEMENT:
I am honored and delighted to be the juror of this 24th edition of Kaleidoscope. When I imagine looking through a kaleidoscope, I recall feeling captivated by each scene and eagerly anticipating the next. That’s what it was like to review the array of entries from the many skilled artists connected to the city of Akron.
Although the selected artworks represent a wide range of subject matter, techniques, and mediums, to me they demonstrate a combination of clarity and complexity. The contrast among the works of art serves to highlight each creator’s individual point of view, expressed as only they can. The selections show remarkable care, intention, and authenticity behind each decision. I hope you find the exhibition to be as visually dazzling and conceptually intriguing as its kaleidoscope namesake. Enjoy!
–Valerie Metzger, Juror
