Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board (Summit DD)

Through a dynamic partnership, Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board (Summit DD) and Summit Artspace are unlocking new opportunities for local artists to connect, create, and grow. Since 2021, Summit DD — the county agency that helps people with developmental disabilities reach their goals and secure opportunities for success — has collaborated with Summit Artspace to help artists of all abilities share their artwork with the community. Each year, the Summit Artspace exhibitions team helps Summit DD artists show their work during the Akron-Summit County Library’s ReelAbilities Festival and in the Summit County Probate Court’s Curated Courthouse program. In addition, Summit Artspace’s Welcome Gallery hosts annual solo exhibitions; artists featured to date include Greg Caudill, Rex Mitchell, and Rachel Parker. The organizations work together to provide valuable artist professional development programs and inclusive and accessible community events like the Akron ArtWalk.

Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board (Summit DD) is the community resource that connects more than 5,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities to the support they need to reach their goals. The levy-funded Agency provides, coordinates and funds essential services that people with disabilities rely on each day. Whether it is early intervention services for infants, in-home care, or employment supports for teens and adults, Summit DD provides a lifetime of support for those eligible for services in Summit County.
