"Cast Pearls" by Cassie Jeffries

A Bunch of Landscapes | Cassie Jeffries

Intersections Gallery

Abstract paintings on shaped canvases by Cassie Jeffries are inspired by the environment and its ever-changing landscapes. The subject of landscapes and their natural systems of change, like erosion, growth, and decay, acts as a conduit for processing internal and social anxieties. For the artist, this focus on change makes way for coming to terms with personal griefs. Many of the natural motifs and forms present in the paintings are drawn from Jeffries’ home in Akron, OH.

Artist Bio

A woman with light skin and long red-brown hair wearing glasses and a green short sleeved t-shirt stands in front of an abstract painting and smiles.

Cassie Jeffries is a painter and sculptural abstractionist based in Akron, Ohio. She received her BFA in Painting from Kent State University and has spent the past year pushing the boundaries of abstraction through shaped, hand-cut surfaces. Her work explores the relationship between internal emotion and external environment, channeling both through a language of organic forms and layered, intuitive mark-making.

Jeffries draws deep inspiration from nature— its patterns, cycles, and the quiet chaos within its shifting landscapes. She often takes plein air walks, sketching observations in watercolor as a way to internalize nature’s fleeting details. These visual impressions become the seeds of her studio practice, where she breaks down, reinterprets, and reimagines them into abstract forms. Through this process, she engages in a dialogue between randomness and structure, developing systems that reflect her personal and emotional response to the natural world. Her visual vocabulary mimics natural processes: layering, eroding, repeating, and evolving.

Her recent work is defined by shaped wooden panels, cut by hand to introduce negative space and spatial tension into the compositions. These forms are painted with a mix of soft gradients and bold textures, saturated and muted tones, and a balance of precision and spontaneity. By layering and sanding down surfaces before repainting them, Jeffries allows each piece to hold its own history. The resulting works are tactile, playful, and reflective. They examine the complex harmony of nature through a lens of personal exploration, constraint, and release.
