Artist Feature: Jennifer Worden

Jennifer Worden is a self-taught glass artist originally from Sacramento, California. She has lived in Akron since 1999 and began working with glass mosaics in the early 2000s. She evolved into torch and kiln work around 2010 but felt limited in experimenting with commercial glass due to its cost. About a year after she started kiln firing, her friend asked if she could use a cobalt blue wine bottle. That question sent her on her current path, and she has been using bottles, broken dishware, and discarded window panes in the creation of her work for the past ten years. Jennifer is inspired by nature and references to mosses and fungi can be found in her pieces.

Jennifer decided to rent a studio at Summit Artspace because she wanted to have a dedicated space for her art and had been a visitor for years. She has gained a community of fellow artists and building visitors who have become her friends and have helped her grow as an artist.

Jennifer enjoys flower gardening and growing heirloom tomatoes from seed. Her family is also creative— her husband is a writer and her daughter enjoys drawing. She has two dogs and three cats. Visit Jennifer in her studio #316 on the third floor of Summit Artspace, and check out her website.
