Fall Exhibitions Open at Summit Artspace on October 6

Akron, OHIO (Tuesday, September 12) — Five exhibitions open at Summit Artspace on Friday, Oct. 6 from 5-8 p.m. Fall Exhibitions will be on view Fridays 12 p.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. through Decembe16.

Summit Artspace’s Fall Exhibitions Opening Night will showcase a diverse group of local artists across all five galleries throughout the building. The event will provide a wonderful opportunity to meet exhibiting artists, heart heir stories, and engagwith the community. The Kaleidoscope Juried Awards will be announced in the Betty and Howard Taylor Main Gallery at 6 p.m.

Director of Artist Resources at Summit Artspace, Natalie Grieshammer Patrick describes the season by saying, “This exhibition season emphasizes the interconnectedness of our arts community, and community at large, in Summit County. Themes of belonging, place, and healing run throughout the shows. The strong presence of local arts groups and community organizations this season help to remind us to uplift each other, especially leveraging the power of art as a tool for empathy, transformation, and self-reflection.

21st Annual Kaleidoscope | Juried Exhibition

Kaleidoscope is an annual holiday show presented by the Alliance for the Visual Arts (AVA). This show is open to all members of AVA organizations: Akron Society of ArtistsArtists of Rubber CityCuyahoga Valley Art Center, and Women’s Art League of AkronThis year’s exhibition will be juried by Anderson TurnerDirector of Exhibitions & Collections at Kent State University School of Art. Winner of the People’s Choice Award will receive a hand-made kaleidoscope by a local artist and their artwork will be featured on next year’s exhibition promotions.

Too Dark| Group Exhibition

The purpose of this exhibition is to advocate for mental health by exposing the parts society often doesn’t want to see, which have been considered “too dark.” Artworks are by participants of Community Support Services’ art therapy programall of whom experience mental illness. Community Support Services is committed to providing hope and healthcare for those of Summit County struggling with persistent mental illnesses, along with building a community where mental health and physical health are treated equally. 

 

Intersections Gallery

Imagine Infinite: Where Wonder Meets Transcendence | Group Exhibition 

Featuring artists from Door 2 Art Studio in Hudson— Adriana CasoAmanda Du PlooyDarlene Hess, Daniel HughesSara HughesBen McRaeMichele MoncriefMeaghan Reed, and Mike Sengthis interactive exhibition will engage all the senses to awaken the possibilities of living in a world of transcendence through beauty and wonder. The outcome of such an awakening can be the restoration of communication and relationships, more empathy for each other, and overall awareness.

 

Forum Gallery

Blurred Lines | Group Exhibition 

Since Abstract Expressionism became popular in the mid-20th century, men have largely received recognition for the movement even though women have always, and continue to, play an important part in shaping the style. Blurred Lines surveys a grouping of intergenerational women artists in Northeast Ohio who create abstract paintings in their own unique styles. Participating artists include Megan DardisCare HansonDara Harper, Mary Ann FlynnFouse, and Diana Rice.

 

 


Horizon Gallery
Anywhere | Lizzi Aronhalt
This solo exhibition is a collection of documented memories and memory processes through architectural and cityscape-based paintings. The series serves as a personal reflection and response to the concept of time, along with the common human processes of forgetting and remembering, and the way those human experiences connect to the places in our lives. Lizzi Aronhalt has been a resident of Summit Artspace for over five years, located in studio 308.

Wall-to-Wall is a program that showcases the work of Summit Artspace resident artists throughout the building’s hallways.

 

BOX Gallery

Resident Organization Artists of Rubber City (AoRC) is presenting a solo exhibition by ShirleyEnde-SaxeWater Intervals. It will be on view October 7 – 28 on the third floor of Summit Artspace. AoRC will then hold their 3rd Annual Small(ish) Show and Sale in The BOX Gallery November 17 – December 16.
