County of Summit

County of Summit is the fourth largest county in Ohio and one of only two charter counties. The county government serves as the primary engine for regional stability by managing critical infrastructure and human services. Its operational scope includes the maintenance of over 1.5 million square feet of public facilities and the oversight of regional sanitary sewer and environmental systems. Beyond physical infrastructure, the county coordinates safety and wellbeing through its Public Safety Department and Emergency Management Agency, while also providing a vital safety net through Job and Family Services and workforce development initiatives. These efforts are complemented by a robust Department of Community and Economic Development, which focuses on business retention, neighborhood revitalization, and strategic planning to ensure long-term regional growth. Summit County formally integrates arts and culture into its economic and civic strategy, viewing the creative sector as a vital public utility. From world-class venues like the Akron Art Museum and Blossom Music Center to initiatives like ArtsNow, the county leverages its cultural assets to drive tourism, attract top-tier talent, and enhance the overall quality of life for its residents.
