DESCRIPTION:Jennifer Mancuso is bold and inspirational about her efforts to normalize public perception of breastfeeding. Her lioness attitude is out front in her debut photo exhibition\, #normalizebreastfeeding\, opening at Summit Artspace on East Market. \nThe show opens with a reception with the artist on June 1\, 5-9 p.m.\, in the Summit Artspace Transition Gallery. Summit Artspace is located at 140 E. Market St.\, Akron. Mancuso will talk about her self-portraits and her work to raise public awareness at 7 p.m. \nThe show is free and open to the public. It runs until July 20. Summit Artspace is closed July 4. \nThe #normalizebreastfeeding images are an honest\, candid portrayal of breastfeeding\, which is supported by many women and men to provide infants with a healthy start in life that contributes to reduce infant mortality. \n“My portraits of motherhood depict my candid\, raw experiences in my breastfeeding journey\, specifically with twins. My goal is by sharing these beautiful portraits\, it will help our population become destigmatized to breastfeeding and give other women and future moms the courage and desire to breastfeed their children without feeling ashamed and with the eventual decline in both infant and maternal mortality\,” said Mancuso. \nHER ADVOCACY TOOK OFF ON SOCIAL MEDIA\nAs mother of twins who breastfed through their first year\, Mancuso is a fine art photographer and has become a social media influencer (Instagram – @jennifer.mancuso) through her unyielding practice and promotion of breastfeeding. She has encountered criticism and opposition from some quarters but also passionate backing from parents and breastfeeding support organizations. \nMancuso will be back in the gallery on July 18\, 4-7 p.m. during 3rd Thursday to talk with visitors. She will give a presentation at 6 p.m. and take questions. Her journey has also been featured in major publications such as “People\,” “Mother.ly\,” “The Bump\,” “Parents\,” “Motherhood\,” and “Health Magazine.” \nWhile navigating the difficult waters of exclusively breastfeeding twins\, Jennifer soon realized her experiences needed to be shared. She used her professional experience as a fine art photographer and presented her work to the world via social media. \nRAISING INFANT MORTALITY AWARENESS\n“Breastfeeding to many women and families still leaves a negative stigma because it is seen as ‘indecent’ and ‘unnecessary exposure’ or ‘inappropriate.’ This creates a culture where women feel ashamed and do not want to even try to breastfeed\,” Mancuso said. \nAccording to America’s Health Ranking website\, the U.S. average of infant mortality is 5.9 deaths per 1\,000 births and Ohio is well above that at more than 7. Infant mortality is defined as a baby born alive who dies in the first year of life. Ohio ranks 40 among states for infant mortality. \nMancuso shared that the lack of breastfeeding and related support are ranked as contributing causes of infant- and maternal-related deaths. DESCRIPTION:Summit Artspace welcomes summer with A View from Within juried show that focuses on artistic interpretation as an evolving relationship between the viewer and the creator. \nThe show which runs until July 6 is free and open to the public. It features 43 pieces in different media by 38 local artists. The juror is artist Christopher Hoot. \nThe artists and Hoot will discuss the exhibit and art at a panel discussion\, June 20\, 7 p.m. Interested persons are invited to see the exhibit before the panel. They can direct the viewer’s vision or simply allow the viewer to set her or his own boundaries. This exhibit invites artists to establish their own view from within and to direct or not direct the viewer’s perspective. \nJuror Christopher Hoot\nHoot teaches art and design at the Myers School of Art at The University of Akron and is the Coordinator of Foundations 2D Design and the B.A. Studio Program. \nHe studied art\, design and psychology at Indiana University\, where he earned a bachelor of art degree and minored in printmaking. After working in Miami\, Florida\, he attended the Yale School of Art MFA program in graphic design where he also studied drawing and sculpture. \nHis current creative research includes combining digital vector graphics and photographic images with an experimental approach to hand-made marbling techniques\, producing multiple layered abstract landscapes\, cityscapes and soundscapes on paper\, canvas and other materials. SUMMARY:Panoramic Perspectives by Dan Rowland\, May 3-June 22
DESCRIPTION:Dan Rowland has been busy opening a new photo business in Kenmore and getting ready to show some of his award-winning shots in The Welcome Gallery at Summit Artspace on East Market. \nSet to run May 3 to June 22\, “Panoramic Perspectives” includes dynamic photos of the Civic\, Cascade Plaza and Kenmore Boulevard in the side gallery that greets visitors as they enter Summit Artspace. Visitors can meet and talk with Rowland at the opening on May 3\, 5-7 p.m.\, and on May 4\, 5-8 p.m. \nSummit Artspace on East Market is located at 140 East Market St.\, Akron. The show is free and open to the public weekly on Thursday and Friday\, 12-7 p.m.\, and Saturday\, 12-5 p.m. \nPhotography has been a consistent in Rowland’s life for 35 years. He grew up in the Akron area and studied commercial photography at the University of Akron. He started working for Jim Maguire at Maguire Photographics\, first as a photo assistant\, and later as a studio manager. He eventually opened his own studio and pursued more of a fine art style photography. \nDan Rowland\nThrough the years\, he advanced his skills as a photographer\, including studying with Howard Bond\, a student of the renowned American photographer Ansel Adams. \nWhen the digital wave hit\, he closed the studio and went back to the University of Akron\, graduating in 2007 with a B.S. in Middle Level Education (grades 4-9) in math and science. \nAfter serving Akron Schools as a math tutor for 10 years\, he gave up the classroom and is once again making photographs full time both in the field and at a small studio he opened at 989 Kenmore Boulevard. He shows some of his work at danrowlandphotography.com. Rowland specializes in architectural\, interior\, portrait\, product and nature photography. \nRowland took the show image\, a fish-eye lens photo of Cascade Plaza\, that he simply calls “Cascade.” \nSummit Artspace is open weekly on Thursday and Friday\, 12-7 p.m.\, and Saturday\, 12-5 p.m. \, for visitors to check out the galleries and artist studios. DESCRIPTION:Dan Rowland has been busy opening a new photo business in Kenmore and getting ready to show some of his award-winning shots in The Welcome Gallery at Summit Artspace on East Market. \nSet to run May 3 to June 22\, “Panoramic Perspectives” includes dynamic photos of the Civic\, Cascade Plaza and Kenmore Boulevard in the side gallery that greets visitors as they enter Summit Artspace. Visitors can meet and talk with Rowland at the opening on May 3\, 5-7 p.m.\, and on May 4\, 5-8 p.m. \nSummit Artspace on East Market is located at 140 East Market St.\, Akron. The show is free and open to the public weekly on Thursday and Friday\, 12-7 p.m.\, and Saturday\, 12-5 p.m. \nPhotography has been a consistent in Rowland’s life for 35 years. He grew up in the Akron area and studied commercial photography at the University of Akron. He started working for Jim Maguire at Maguire Photographics\, first as a photo assistant\, and later as a studio manager. He eventually opened his own studio and pursued more of a fine art style photography. \nDan Rowland\nThrough the years\, he advanced his skills as a photographer\, including studying with Howard Bond\, a student of the renowned American photographer Ansel Adams. \nWhen the digital wave hit\, he closed the studio and went back to the University of Akron\, graduating in 2007 with a B.S. in Middle Level Education (grades 4-9) in math and science. \nAfter serving Akron Schools as a math tutor for 10 years\, he gave up the classroom and is once again making photographs full time both in the field and at a small studio he opened at 989 Kenmore Boulevard. He shows some of his work at danrowlandphotography.com. Summit Artspace is closed July 4. \nThe #normalizebreastfeeding images are an honest\, candid portrayal of breastfeeding\, which is supported by many women and men to provide infants with a healthy start in life that contributes to reduce infant mortality. \n“My portraits of motherhood depict my candid\, raw experiences in my breastfeeding journey\, specifically with twins. My goal is by sharing these beautiful portraits\, it will help our population become destigmatized to breastfeeding and give other women and future moms the courage and desire to breastfeed their children without feeling ashamed and with the eventual decline in both infant and maternal mortality\,” said Mancuso. \nHER ADVOCACY TOOK OFF ON SOCIAL MEDIA\nAs mother of twins who breastfed through their first year\, Mancuso is a fine art photographer and has become a social media influencer (Instagram – @jennifer.mancuso) through her unyielding practice and promotion of breastfeeding. She has encountered criticism and opposition from some quarters but also passionate backing from parents and breastfeeding support organizations. \nMancuso will be back in the gallery on July 18\, 4-7 p.m. during 3rd Thursday to talk with visitors. She will give a presentation at 6 p.m. and take questions. Her journey has also been featured in major publications such as “People\,” “Mother.ly\,” “The Bump\,” “Parents\,” “Motherhood\,” and “Health Magazine.” \nWhile navigating the difficult waters of exclusively breastfeeding twins\, Jennifer soon realized her experiences needed to be shared. She used her professional experience as a fine art photographer and presented her work to the world via social media. \nRAISING INFANT MORTALITY AWARENESS\n“Breastfeeding to many women and families still leaves a negative stigma because it is seen as ‘indecent’ and ‘unnecessary exposure’ or ‘inappropriate.’ This creates a culture where women feel ashamed and do not want to even try to breastfeed\,” Mancuso said. \nAccording to America’s Health Ranking website\, the U.S. average of infant mortality is 5.9 deaths per 1\,000 births and Ohio is well above that at more than 7. DESCRIPTION:Summit Artspace welcomes summer with A View from Within juried show that focuses on artistic interpretation as an evolving relationship between the viewer and the creator. \nThe show which runs until July 6 is free and open to the public. It features 43 pieces in different media by 38 local artists. The juror is artist Christopher Hoot. \nThe artists and Hoot will discuss the exhibit and art at a panel discussion\, June 20\, 7 p.m. Interested persons are invited to see the exhibit before the panel. They can direct the viewer’s vision or simply allow the viewer to set her or his own boundaries. DESCRIPTION:Jennifer Mancuso is bold and inspirational about her efforts to normalize public perception of breastfeeding. Her lioness attitude is out front in her debut photo exhibition\, #normalizebreastfeeding\, opening at Summit Artspace on East Market. \nThe show opens with a reception with the artist on June 1\, 5-9 p.m.\, in the Summit Artspace Transition Gallery. Summit Artspace is located at 140 E. Market St.\, Akron. Mancuso will talk about her self-portraits and her work to raise public awareness at 7 p.m. \nThe show is free and open to the public. It runs until July 20. Summit Artspace is closed July 4. \nThe images are an honest\, candid portrayal of breastfeeding\, which is supported by many women and men to provide infants with a healthy start in life that contributes to reduce infant mortality. \n“My portraits of motherhood depict my candid\, raw experiences in my breastfeeding journey\, specifically with twins. My goal is by sharing these beautiful portraits\, it will help our population become destigmatized to breastfeeding and give other women and future moms the courage and desire to breastfeed their children without feeling ashamed and with the eventual decline in both infant and maternal mortality\,” said Mancuso. \nHER ADVOCACY TOOK OFF ON SOCIAL MEDIA\nAs mother of twins who breastfed through their first year\, Mancuso is a fine art photographer and has become a social media influencer (Instagram – @jennifer.mancuso) through her unyielding practice and promotion of breastfeeding. She has encountered criticism and opposition from some quarters but also passionate backing from parents and breastfeeding support organizations. \nMancuso will be back in the gallery on July 18\, 4-7 p.m. during 3rd Thursday to talk with visitors. She will give a presentation at 6 p.m. and take questions. Her journey has also been featured in major publications such as “People\,” “Mother.ly\,” “The Bump\,” “Parents\,” “Motherhood\,” and “Health Magazine.” \nWhile navigating the difficult waters of exclusively breastfeeding twins\, Jennifer soon realized her experiences needed to be shared. She used her professional experience as a fine art photographer and presented her work to the world via social media. \nRAISING INFANT MORTALITY AWARENESS\n“Breastfeeding to many women and families still leaves a negative stigma because it is seen as ‘indecent’ and ‘unnecessary exposure’ or ‘inappropriate.’ This creates a culture where women feel ashamed and do not want to even try to breastfeed\,” Mancuso said. \nAccording to America’s Health Ranking website\, the U.S. average of infant mortality is 5.9 deaths per 1\,000 births and Ohio is well above that at more than 7. Infant mortality is defined as a baby born alive who dies in the first year of life. Ohio ranks 40 among states for infant mortality. \nMancuso shared that the lack of breastfeeding and related support are ranked as contributing causes of infant- and maternal-related deaths. DESCRIPTION:Summit Artspace welcomes summer with A View from Within juried show that focuses on artistic interpretation as an evolving relationship between the viewer and the creator. \nThe show which runs until July 6 is free and open to the public. It features 43 pieces in different media by 38 local artists. The juror is artist Christopher Hoot. \nThe artists and Hoot will discuss the exhibit and art at a panel discussion\, June 20\, 7 p.m. Interested persons are invited to see the exhibit before the panel. They can direct the viewer’s vision or simply allow the viewer to set her or his own boundaries. This exhibit invites artists to establish their own view from within and to direct or not direct the viewer’s perspective. \nJuror Christopher Hoot\nHoot teaches art and design at the Myers School of Art at The University of Akron and is the Coordinator of Foundations 2D Design and the B.A. Studio Program. \nHe studied art\, design and psychology at Indiana University\, where he earned a bachelor of art degree and minored in printmaking. After working in Miami\, Florida\, he attended the Yale School of Art MFA program in graphic design where he also studied drawing and sculpture. \nHis current creative research includes combining digital vector graphics and photographic images with an experimental approach to hand-made marbling techniques\, producing multiple layered abstract landscapes\, cityscapes and soundscapes on paper\, canvas and other materials. DESCRIPTION:Dan Rowland has been busy opening a new photo business in Kenmore and getting ready to show some of his award-winning shots in The Welcome Gallery at Summit Artspace on East Market. \nSet to run May 3 to June 22\, “Panoramic Perspectives” includes dynamic photos of the Civic\, Cascade Plaza and Kenmore Boulevard in the side gallery that greets visitors as they enter Summit Artspace. Visitors can meet and talk with Rowland at the opening on May 3\, 5-7 p.m.\, and on May 4\, 5-8 p.m. \nSummit Artspace on East Market is located at 140 East Market St.\, Akron. The show is free and open to the public weekly on Thursday and Friday\, 12-7 p.m.\, and Saturday\, 12-5 p.m. \nPhotography has been a consistent in Rowland’s life for 35 years. He grew up in the Akron area and studied commercial photography at the University of Akron. He started working for Jim Maguire at Maguire Photographics\, first as a photo assistant\, and later as a studio manager. He eventually opened his own studio and pursued more of a fine art style photography. \nDan Rowland\nThrough the years\, he advanced his skills as a photographer\, including studying with Howard Bond\, a student of the renowned American photographer Ansel Adams. \nWhen the digital wave hit\, he closed the studio and went back to the University of Akron\, graduating in 2007 with a B.S. in Middle Level Education (grades 4-9) in math and science. \nAfter serving Akron Schools as a math tutor for 10 years\, he gave up the classroom and is once again making photographs full time both in the field and at a small studio he opened at 989 Kenmore Boulevard. He shows some of his work at danrowlandphotography.com. DESCRIPTION:Dan Rowland has been busy opening a new photo business in Kenmore and getting ready to show some of his award-winning shots in The Welcome Gallery at Summit Artspace on East Market. \nSet to run May 3 to June 22\, “Panoramic Perspectives” includes dynamic photos of the Civic\, Cascade Plaza and Kenmore Boulevard in the side gallery that greets visitors as they enter Summit Artspace. Visitors can meet and talk with Rowland at the opening on May 3\, 5-7 p.m.\, and on May 4\, 5-8 p.m. \nSummit Artspace on East Market is located at 140 East Market St.\, Akron. The show is free and open to the public weekly on Thursday and Friday\, 12-7 p.m.\, and Saturday\, 12-5 p.m. \nPhotography has been a consistent in Rowland’s life for 35 years. He grew up in the Akron area and studied commercial photography at the University of Akron. He started working for Jim Maguire at Maguire Photographics\, first as a photo assistant\, and later as a studio manager. He eventually opened his own studio and pursued more of a fine art style photography. \nDan Rowland\nThrough the years\, he advanced his skills as a photographer\, including studying with Howard Bond\, a student of the renowned American photographer Ansel Adams. \nWhen the digital wave hit\, he closed the studio and went back to the University of Akron\, graduating in 2007 with a B.S. in Middle Level Education (grades 4-9) in math and science. \nAfter serving Akron Schools as a math tutor for 10 years\, he gave up the classroom and is once again making photographs full time both in the field and at a small studio he opened at 989 Kenmore Boulevard. He shows some of his work at danrowlandphotography.com.
