One of Ohio’s oldest and most active art organizations\, ASA serves artists of all ages and stages of development – from student to novice to professional. \nThrough the years\, the organization has built a solid reputation as a venue for artistic growth and excellence. Members grow from being part of its artistic community and the variety of arts-related activities it provides. \nASA offers weekly Wednesday evening programming September through May\, featuring member critiques\, technique demonstrations and art history presentations. On Tuesdays\, artists meet to paint landscapes en plein air during the summer and fall months and still life subjects in the studio throughout the winter. SUMMARY:FRESH 2020 Art Exhibition at Summit Artspace on East Market
DESCRIPTION:The first show of the year at Summit Artspace on East Market sets the bar for local artists and the “FRESH 2020 Juried Art Exhibition\,” that opens Jan. 10\, is no exception and is even taking on extra space in the art center. \nJuror and artist Katina Pastis Radwanski chose 69 works of varying media for the 16th annual show which includes the main gallery on the first floor and the newly-named THREE G Gallery on the third floor. \nFRESH OPENING NIGHT\, JAN. 10\nWinners will be announced at 7 p.m. during the free opening reception with artists on Friday\, Jan. 10\, 5-8 p.m.\, on the third floor. Summit Artspace on East Market is located at 140 E. Market St.\, Akron. The show runs through Feb. 8 and is free and open to the public. \nFor 16 years\, the FRESH shows have challenged artists from Summit\, Medina\, Portage\, Cayhoga and Stark counties to push the boundaries of what art can be– stylistically\, conceptually and technically–and have presented viewers with a new lens through which to see the world. The works feature novel styles\, original thinking and demonstrate a high level of skill in the artist’s chosen 2D or 3D media. \nTHREE G OPENS FOR FRESH\nThe THREE G Gallery was formerly the Big Box of The BOX Gallery founded and operated by the Artists of Rubber City for 10 years. The AoRC transferred management of the space to Summit Artspace starting in January 2020. \nABOUT THE FRESH JUROR\nJuror and Artist Katina Pastis Radwanski\nJuror Radwanski resides in Hudson\, Ohio. A graduate of Kent State University for undergrad and The University of Georgia as a graduate student\, she has taught community art classes and workshops\, in addition to being a high school art teacher. She shows her award-winning work in numerous solo and group shows and juried competitions in a variety of venues\, galleries and at her studio/gallery in the ArtCraft Building in downtown Cleveland\, Ohio.  She also creates pieces on commission. \nShe is represented by Grayhaus Studios in Bay Village. Radwanski is a member of the Artcraft Building Sixth Floor Artists Group in Cleveland; an associate member of Group Ten Gallery in Kent; and a member of the Tannery Row Artist Colony in Buford\, GA. \nShe will participate in a discussion panel with FRESH artists on Thursday\, Feb. 6\, from 7-8 p.m. in the main gallery. The art can represent the artist’s personal journey or depict the journey of another and the impact of watching the journey as a bystander. \nCreative Recovery includes painting\, drawing\, jewelry-making\, and all forms of 2D and 3D art can be used as the portal for the expression. SUMMARY:Opening Night! FRESH 2020 Art Exhibition at Summit Artspace on East Market
DESCRIPTION:The first show of the year at Summit Artspace on East Market sets the bar for local artists and the “FRESH 2020 Juried Art Exhibition\,” that opens Jan. 10\, is no exception and is even taking on extra space in the art center. \nJuror and artist Katina Pastis Radwanski chose 69 works of varying media for the 16th annual show which includes the main gallery on the first floor and the newly-named THREE G Gallery on the third floor. \nFRESH OPENING NIGHT\, JAN. 10\nWinners will be announced at 7 p.m. during the free opening reception with artists on Friday\, Jan. 10\, 5-8 p.m.\, on the third floor. Summit Artspace on East Market is located at 140 E. Market St.\, Akron. The show runs through Feb. 8 and is free and open to the public. \nFor 16 years\, the FRESH shows have challenged artists from Summit\, Medina\, Portage\, Cayhoga and Stark counties to push the boundaries of what art can be– stylistically\, conceptually and technically–and have presented viewers with a new lens through which to see the world. The works feature novel styles\, original thinking and demonstrate a high level of skill in the artist’s chosen 2D or 3D media. \nTHREE G OPENS FOR FRESH\nThe THREE G Gallery was formerly the Big Box of The BOX Gallery founded and operated by the Artists of Rubber City for 10 years. The AoRC transferred management of the space to Summit Artspace starting in January 2020. \nABOUT THE FRESH JUROR\nJuror and Artist Katina Pastis Radwanski\nJuror Radwanski resides in Hudson\, Ohio. A graduate of Kent State University for undergrad and The University of Georgia as a graduate student\, she has taught community art classes and workshops\, in addition to being a high school art teacher. She shows her award-winning work in numerous solo and group shows and juried competitions in a variety of venues\, galleries and at her studio/gallery in the ArtCraft Building in downtown Cleveland\, Ohio.  She also creates pieces on commission. \nShe is represented by Grayhaus Studios in Bay Village. Radwanski is a member of the Artcraft Building Sixth Floor Artists Group in Cleveland; an associate member of Group Ten Gallery in Kent; and a member of the Tannery Row Artist Colony in Buford\, GA. \nShe will participate in a discussion panel with FRESH artists on Thursday\, Feb. 6\, from 7-8 p.m. in the main gallery. One of Ohio’s oldest and most active art organizations\, ASA serves artists of all ages and stages of development – from student to novice to professional. \nThrough the years\, the organization has built a solid reputation as a venue for artistic growth and excellence. Members grow from being part of its artistic community and the variety of arts-related activities it provides. \nASA offers weekly Wednesday evening programming September through May\, featuring member critiques\, technique demonstrations and art history presentations. On Tuesdays\, artists meet to paint landscapes en plein air during the summer and fall months and still life subjects in the studio throughout the winter. The group promotes the appreciation of art created by contemporary artists as a facet of the rich culture to be found in Northeast Ohio. Members have diverse backgrounds in visual art including painters\, photographers\, printmakers\, fiber artists\, ceramicists\, media artists\, graphic artists\, sculptors\, and jewelers. \nAbout The BOX Gallery\nThe BOX Gallery is an artist-run\, contemporary gallery owned by the Artists of Rubber City and supported by Ohio Arts Council and the Akron Community Foundation. DESCRIPTION:AKRON AREA ART GROUPS COMPETE FOR 17TH ANNUAL KALEIDOSCOPE SHOW AT SUMMIT ARTSPACE\nMembers of area art groups will bring their best to the year’s most anticipated competition\, the 17th Annual Kaleidoscope Holiday Juried Art Exhibition\, which opens Nov. 22 at Summit Artspace on East Market\, 140 E. Market St.\, Akron. \nThe show is displayed in the main gallery at Summit Artspace on East Market. The exhibition which runs until Dec. 21 is free and open to the public. Closed Thanksgiving Day. \nThe juried exhibition is organized each year by the Alliance for the Visual Arts. Kaleidoscope was founded in 2003 by AVA which is the umbrella group of the four area arts organizations: Akron Society of Artists\, Artists of Rubber City\, Cuyahoga Valley Art Center and the Women’s Art League of Akron. More than 600 active members are eligible to compete in Kaleidoscope. See the 2019 winners here. \nABOUT THE KALEIDOSCOPE JUROR\nJuror Theresa Bembnister\, Curator of Exhibitions at the Akron Art Museum\nThis is a very prominent show and gives inspiration to artists and art lovers from all over Northeast Ohio. Cash prizes for the top juried winners will be announced at 7 p.m. at the opening event by juror Theresa Bembnister\, Curator of Exhibitions at the Akron Art Museum. \nBembnister has curated numerous exhibitions\, including the current Open World: Video Games & Contemporary Art\, an immersive new exhibition that features artists whose work has been influenced by video games. She earned an MA in art history and museum studies from Case Western Reserve University and a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. \nVOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE!\nGallery visitors will be able to vote for their favorite artist to win the People’s Choice Award\, a working kaleidoscope designed and hand-blown by glass artist\, Bob Pozarski of Peninsula. The winner will be announced at the end of the show on the Summit Artspace website. Julie DiSiena of Northfield was the 2018 People’s Choice winner for\, “Prism Sunset Pond\,” used in this year’s publicity. DESCRIPTION:JUDY GAISER’S AUDACIOUS ART IN WELCOME GALLERY\nBold and audacious and electric describes the art of Judy Gaiser of Kent in her show\, Out of My Mind. She catches moments–the second before the ball break on the billiard table\, the drum downbeat\, the sexy stilletos of the bridesmaids waiting on the sidewalk outside the church…. \nJudy’s one-woman show is on display at Summit Artspace on East Market in the Welcome Gallery through Dec. 21. The show is free and open to the public. \nJudy is a product of the Cleveland\, Ohio art scene.  She grew up in the area\, and as a youth took part in the Cleveland Museum gifted school program.  She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Capital University and a Masters of Studio Arts from Case Western Reserve through the Cleveland Institute of Art. \nJudy Gaiser\, ACCOMPLISHED AREA ARTIST\nJudith works from imagination\, memory and life in a variety of media. Line\, color\, energy and message are of upmost importance in each of her works. Creativity is the mental escape of her choice and joy.  She has exhibited in shows across Ohio\, including exhibits at the Cleveland Museum of Art\, the Butler Institute of American Art\, the Canton Art Institute and the Massillon Museum of Art. She is regular contributor to shows at Summit Artspace. \n\n \nJudy Gaiser \n\nJudy Gaiser\, BELOVED ART TEACHER IN THE NEO\nShe was an art teacher for several decades in Northeast Ohio\, the Columbus area and Portland\, OR. She has won several awards for outstanding teaching. DESCRIPTION:Ryan Scott is bringing his world of travel\, music and words\, written and sung\, to Summit Artspace on East Market for a one-man introspective show\, Confessions of  Stranger\, Dec. 13-21. \nOPENING DATE & RECEPTION WITH RYAN SCOTT\nConfessions of a Stranger\nConfessions of a Stranger opens Friday\, Dec. 13\, 5-7 p.m. in the newly-named “Skyline Gallery” on the third floor of Summit Artspace on East Market. You can meet and hear Ryan’s music on Saturday\, Dec. 14\, 12-8 p.m. at a free reception. He will be performing at 7 p.m.   \nMy Friend\, The Swan by Ryan Scott\nGALLERY HOURS\nSummit Artspace’s main gallery is open weekly Thursdays and Fridays\, noon to 7 p.m.\, and Saturdays\, noon to 5 p.m. Additional hours include Dec. 19 for 3rd Thursday\, 4-9 p.m. \nABOUT RYAN SCOTT\nRyan Scott was born in Ohio but grew up in North Carolina\, the youngest of five siblings. His father passed away when he was fourteen years old. \nRyan Scott\nRaised by a single parent\, he found himself alone a lot\, finding comfort in writing stories and music. He had a fascination with photographs\, always having a camera by his side.  \nHe joined his first band at the age of fifteen\, and by the age of eighteen dropping out of high school to follow his musical dreams. He would find himself immersed in this life for the next twenty plus years\, touring the world\, recording and writing music\, and living in Paris on and off for ten years.  \nThroughout this journey\, Ryan\, unknowingly\, would document every event through writing\, music\, and photographs\, with each outlet inspiring the other. With no formal training\, Ryan’s inspiration has come from his life experiences as well as how he sees the world. \nRyan continues to photograph moments\, keep journals\, write poems\, lyrics\, and book chapters. The exhibit: “Confessions of a Stranger”\, is a snapshot into various moments throughout his life\, taking you on a journey\nthrough his writings\, music and photographs\, giving you a glimpse into a different way of seeing the world we live in. \nHilton by Ryan Scott\nRyan has published two poetry collections\, “Let It Fade” (2016) and “A Touch of You: Emotions\, Feelings\, & Thoughts of A Lost Soul” (2017). You can meet and hear Ryan’s music on Saturday\, Dec. 14\, 12-8 p.m. at a free reception. He will be performing at 7 p.m.   \nMy Friend\, The Swan by Ryan Scott\nGALLERY HOURS\nSummit Artspace’s main gallery is open weekly Thursdays and Fridays\, noon to 7 p.m.\, and Saturdays\, noon to 5 p.m. Additional hours include Dec. 19 for 3rd Thursday\, 4-9 p.m. \nABOUT RYAN SCOTT\nRyan Scott was born in Ohio but grew up in North Carolina\, the youngest of five siblings. His father passed away when he was fourteen years old. \nRyan Scott\nRaised by a single parent\, he found himself alone a lot\, finding comfort in writing stories and music. He had a fascination with photographs\, always having a camera by his side.  \nHe joined his first band at the age of fifteen\, and by the age of eighteen dropping out of high school to follow his musical dreams. He would find himself immersed in this life for the next twenty plus years\, touring the world\, recording and writing music\, and living in Paris on and off for ten years.  \nThroughout this journey\, Ryan\, unknowingly\, would document every event through writing\, music\, and photographs\, with each outlet inspiring the other. With no formal training\, Ryan’s inspiration has come from his life experiences as well as how he sees the world. \nRyan continues to photograph moments\, keep journals\, write poems\, lyrics\, and book chapters. The exhibit: “Confessions of a Stranger”\, is a snapshot into various moments throughout his life\, taking you on a journey\nthrough his writings\, music and photographs\, giving you a glimpse into a different way of seeing the world we live in. \nHilton by Ryan Scott\nRyan has published two poetry collections\, “Let It Fade” (2016) and “A Touch of You: Emotions\, Feelings\, & Thoughts of A Lost Soul” (2017). SUMMARY:Out of My Mind\, The Art of Judy Gaiser\, Nov. 2-Dec. 21
DESCRIPTION:JUDY GAISER’S AUDACIOUS ART IN WELCOME GALLERY\nBold and audacious and electric describes the art of Judy Gaiser of Kent in her show\, Out of My Mind. She catches moments–the second before the ball break on the billiard table\, the drum downbeat\, the sexy stilletos of the bridesmaids waiting on the sidewalk outside the church…. \nJudy’s one-woman show is on display at Summit Artspace on East Market in the Welcome Gallery through Dec. 21. The show is free and open to the public. \nJudy is a product of the Cleveland\, Ohio art scene.  She grew up in the area\, and as a youth took part in the Cleveland Museum gifted school program.  She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Capital University and a Masters of Studio Arts from Case Western Reserve through the Cleveland Institute of Art. \nJudy Gaiser\, ACCOMPLISHED AREA ARTIST\nJudith works from imagination\, memory and life in a variety of media. Line\, color\, energy and message are of upmost importance in each of her works. Creativity is the mental escape of her choice and joy.  She has exhibited in shows across Ohio\, including exhibits at the Cleveland Museum of Art\, the Butler Institute of American Art\, the Canton Art Institute and the Massillon Museum of Art. She is regular contributor to shows at Summit Artspace. \n\n \nJudy Gaiser \n\nBELOVED ART TEACHER IN THE NEO\nShe was an art teacher for several decades in Northeast Ohio\, the Columbus area and Portland\, OR. She has won several awards for outstanding teaching. AoRC is a member-based visual art nonprofit with the mission to advocate for contemporary artists and art in the area. The group promotes the appreciation of art created by contemporary artists as a facet of the rich culture to be found in Northeast Ohio. Members have diverse backgrounds in visual art including painters\, photographers\, printmakers\, fiber artists\, ceramicists\, media artists\, graphic artists\, sculptors\, and jewelers. \nAbout The BOX Gallery\nThe BOX Gallery is an artist-run\, contemporary gallery owned by the Artists of Rubber City and supported by Ohio Arts Council and the Akron Community Foundation. DESCRIPTION:AKRON AREA ART GROUPS COMPETE FOR 17TH ANNUAL KALEIDOSCOPE SHOW AT SUMMIT ARTSPACE\nMembers of area art groups will bring their best to the year’s most anticipated competition\, the 17th Annual Kaleidoscope Holiday Juried Art Exhibition\, which opens Nov. 22 at Summit Artspace on East Market\, 140 E. Market St.\, Akron. \nThe show is displayed in the main gallery at Summit Artspace on East Market. The exhibition which runs until Dec. 21 is free and open to the public. Closed Thanksgiving Day. \nThe juried exhibition is organized each year by the Alliance for the Visual Arts. Kaleidoscope was founded in 2003 by AVA which is the umbrella group of the four area arts organizations: Akron Society of Artists\, Artists of Rubber City\, Cuyahoga Valley Art Center and the Women’s Art League of Akron. More than 600 active members are eligible to compete in Kaleidoscope. See the 2019 winners here. \nABOUT THE KALEIDOSCOPE JUROR\nJuror Theresa Bembnister\, Curator of Exhibitions at the Akron Art Museum\nThis is a very prominent show and gives inspiration to artists and art lovers from all over Northeast Ohio. Cash prizes for the top juried winners will be announced at 7 p.m. at the opening event by juror Theresa Bembnister\, Curator of Exhibitions at the Akron Art Museum. \nBembnister has curated numerous exhibitions\, including the current Open World: Video Games & Contemporary Art\, an immersive new exhibition that features artists whose work has been influenced by video games. She earned an MA in art history and museum studies from Case Western Reserve University and a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. \nVOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE!\nGallery visitors will be able to vote for their favorite artist to win the People’s Choice Award\, a working kaleidoscope designed and hand-blown by glass artist\, Bob Pozarski of Peninsula. The winner will be announced at the end of the show on the Summit Artspace website. Julie DiSiena of Northfield was the 2018 People’s Choice winner for\, “Prism Sunset Pond\,” used in this year’s publicity. She is a member of the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center. \nARTIST DISCUSSION PANEL\, DEC. 19\nThe Kaleidoscope artists will gather for a free panel discussion led by Bembnister on Thursday\, Dec. 19\, from 7-8 p.m. in the main gallery surrounded by the artwork. SUMMARY:Out of My Mind\, The Art of Judy Gaiser\, Nov. 2-Dec. 21
DESCRIPTION:JUDY GAISER’S AUDACIOUS ART IN WELCOME GALLERY\nBold and audacious and electric describes the art of Judy Gaiser of Kent in her show\, Out of My Mind. She catches moments–the second before the ball break on the billiard table\, the drum downbeat\, the sexy stilletos of the bridesmaids waiting on the sidewalk outside the church…. \nJudy’s one-woman show is on display at Summit Artspace on East Market in the Welcome Gallery through Dec. 21. The show is free and open to the public. \nJudy is a product of the Cleveland\, Ohio art scene.  She grew up in the area\, and as a youth took part in the Cleveland Museum gifted school program.  She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Capital University and a Masters of Studio Arts from Case Western Reserve through the Cleveland Institute of Art. \nJudy Gaiser\, ACCOMPLISHED AREA ARTIST\nJudith works from imagination\, memory and life in a variety of media. Line\, color\, energy and message are of upmost importance in each of her works. Creativity is the mental escape of her choice and joy.  She has exhibited in shows across Ohio\, including exhibits at the Cleveland Museum of Art\, the Butler Institute of American Art\, the Canton Art Institute and the Massillon Museum of Art. She is regular contributor to shows at Summit Artspace. \n\n \nJudy Gaiser \n\nBELOVED ART TEACHER IN THE NEO\nShe was an art teacher for several decades in Northeast Ohio\, the Columbus area and Portland\, OR. She has won several awards for outstanding teaching.
