Celebrating Our First 30 Years: Artists of Rubber City

Artists Group Celebrates Anniversary at Summit Artspace

Works by members of the visual arts organization Artists of Rubber City (ARC) will be on display March 15 through April 19 at Summit Artspace Gallery in downtown Akron.  The exhibition, titled “Celebrating Our First 30Years,” honors the anniversary of ARC, which boasts a current membership 110 fiber artists, potters, printmakers, sculptors, painters, collage artists, jewelers, photographers and film makers.  Members past and present were invited to submit works for the show.  The public is invited to a meet-the-artists reception on Friday, March 14 from 6 to 8 pm.

ARC was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1978 by a group of University of Akron art students and graduates. Its mission is to promote public awareness and support for local artists plus encourage exhibition venues and community art projects.  The group sponsors an annual member show, a juried exhibit open to all area artists and a financial grant for members wishing to advance their artistic careers.  A DVD highlighting the organization’s history will be part of the Summit Artspace exhibition.
