Gina Howe Artist Biography

When I was about 12 years old, I got my first camera. However, my passion for photography didn’t spark until I was in my late thirties. Since then, I have focused on landscapes and nature but have also photographed some sports and my husband’s band.

Although electronic editing is an art unto itself, I do not utilize any editing programs for my landscape and nature photos. My goal is to capture the moment using my camera equipment.

I was born and raised in Barberton; and after a few years away, I moved back home in 2009. I married a fellow Barbertonian, Chuck Howe, in 2014. My photography has been featured at Western Reserve Hospital’s Local Artists Gallery, Barberton Gallery of Fine Art, at the Celebration of Beautiful Women, and in my hometown newspaper.

Gina Howe Artist Statement

The inspiration for my photography surrounds us. Nature can be found everywhere, from a hike in the country to your backyard, and even in urban settings. One of the main things that continually amazes me is the number of different shades there are of the same color. Take a moment to look—to really look—at a sunset and notice how many shades of orange, pink, lavender, and red can be found. Every sunset is different, so every evening there is a chance for a new combination of colors. I enjoy trying to capture these subtle differences that nature gives us.

I hope my art inspires you to look at the world a little differently, and to perhaps slow down and find the beauty in everyday things…from a seemingly simple flower to a sky painted by light and color.
